My ethnic background is European. I have lived in the US, Canada, England, Egypt, and Japan. Japanese is my second language and French is my third language. My Arabic is rusty but with practice could come back to a basic level. I can understand basic Brazilian Portuguese. I would enjoy practicing French or Japanese with you.
The people who have influenced me most have been a physical education teacher and sports coach who taught me the meaning of persistence. Political science and history professors who gave the gift of life-long learning. A Swedish physics professor in high school who taught me to question everything. And a teaching colleague in Japan who gave me great insight into Japanese culture and Buddhism.
In the category of "things I can't live without", I would put my iPhone, music, French roast coffee, exercise (I must confess to being a bit of a jock), and Christmas. Of all the festivals in all the world, it's the best one ever created!
